Default Dropped Helmet

I dropped my Shoei helmet a couple of times. I've read that it should be replaced at this point. Is that REALLY true? Do I need to go drop a ton of money into a new helmet?

Thanks!

Check it carefully, if it cracked, sure. However, that shrink wrap could hide it I guess...I think the one time use is considered from crushed foam inside. However, a police officer said something about my small Daytona thinking it was fake since it had the DOT on top of the gelcoat. I ask the Maker and he said that is the way they use to be and just to replace it since it was over 10 years old.
If it doesn't rattle, that's good enough for me....

When you say "dropped"...are you talking a 3' drop from your hand/handlebar, or has it been in a crash? Hope not the latter, but if it's a simple fumble-drop...you're good (IMO).

If you are really worried, Shoei has a program where you can send it in for recertification.

It fell from the bars a couple of times. A few nicks to the paint... Thanks for the responses.

I think the age of the helmet is also important. Yeah its not your question but they don't last forever.

To add some authority to the statement that there is no need to replace a dropped helmet, here is a
where Jay talks to a rep from Arai helmets, and the rep unequivocally says that a dropped helmet should be fine.

Skip to 7:00 for the pertinent part.

If I ever drop mine, it won't be from a height of more than 3', so no, I won't be replacing it for that. A crash, of course I will. To me, helmet manufacturers and sellers made up that "rule".
