Yeah, sorry about that. My son's a Flight Medic, and my wife and MIL were ER nurses, so I'm used to gross stories.
Good friend back KC spent several months in a wheel chair and on crutches over tennis shoes and a bike wreck tore that foot up bad, had boots on he'd have been over it in a few weeks.
Unfortunately, ride long enough, it is not a matter of if but when you will be involved in an accident. That is a fact! My last and most serious accident occurred in 2010. Deserted country road, no traffic, no high speed, just around 40mph, what could happen, right? Short, oncoming single car, hi-beams, an island with 30" steel pickets (spears), no lights or reflective warning material or signs & a high side due to unseen sand. What could go wrong?
Slid on palms but wear gloves (worn through but no skin), leather jacket was worn down, serviceable but screwed zippers, but purchased another jacket of cow hide. Toes were worn down on top and still worked until I got back from the hospital.
3 fractured ribs, broken arm in 2 places, and a broken shoulder. A few weeks in bed unable to dance much along with even my hair hurting. My HDF friend from Chicago (Jay Risk) sent food to my house, a real battle to get out of bed for three days because I refused to take pain medication and tough it out. I am a moron as my body refused to move due to the pain.
Moral of the story, I have always road with protective clothing even all of those years since 1965 when I did not crash. Only takes once. Oh ya, steel toe boots is a must. I did break my big toe nail that would not have happened if riding with a steel toe boot. Do with this information what you want as it is your *** only.
If I could, I'd live in my motorcycle boots. If your motorcycle boots aren't comfortable, you're wearing the wrong boots, or you need to wear them long enough to break them in.
