I wear what I'm wearing pretty much. even picked up pair of sandals recently where the strap over the foot sits just under the shifter and shifts comfortably, so I wear those too.
It doesn't matter what you wear when you ride. You can wear flip flops. It matters what you're wearing if/when you crash.
Kind of like saying speeding isn't dangerous, just the stop is.
But your choice of safety apparel does affect the rest of us to some extent. Insurance costs, medical bills, legal costs, social security disability and rehab is very expensive. Who pays if you are uninsured?
I do. Vans and Converse. It's what I like. Haven't found a boot that I feel comfortable in while riding. All depends on your level of accepted risk. At the end of the day, anything is better than flip flops - wear what you like. Then again I'm your typical California dyna bro, so what do I know...

Except he didn't say there would be a 100% accident rate. He said 100% of all motorcyclists would be involved in an accident. I don't deny it's a dangerous mode of transportation, but not a "100% I'm going to be in a wreck" dangerous. Source it and I'll say thank you and bow out.
In a chat site it is very important to read what is written. I wrote
Unfortunately, ride long enough, it is not a matter of if but when you will be involved in an accident
Put your finger over each word and say it aloud. My source, maybe it could be riding since 1965. I also said that
Do with this information what you want as it is your *** only.
What do I need a source for when I know of no one who actually rides a bike will not have some sort of mishap given enough time. The OP asked about wearing a type of footwear. I gave my results on what happened to me. I do not care what you do, I am not you. When quoting, quote the spirit I what I wrote and not like a professional presidential speachmaker who only prints part of the story to get the desired results. I am saying is be prepared.

No harm, no foul. I just see this quote from the atgatt crowd time and again and I'd like them to put up or shut up.
