Damn Nubie had to go and be nice......
This is great to hear! Everyone was new to this at one point. I know when we first bought our Honda (yes Honda) it was the Harley guys that were so great to us that it sold us on buy a Harley.
"Now these folks had on BRAND NEW jackets with HARLEY-DAVIDSON emblazoned on the front and back. They were on a brand new duce (very nice looking with great wheels), new shiny helmets etc. You just couldn't miss that they were new to this and yes it was pretty funny at first glance."
It is one of those independant films that was a documentary about the people who ride their Harleys around America. Filmed during the 1996 annual biker run held at Sturgis, South Dakota, it takes a close look at some of the different types of people who ride Harleys, showing that they're not what popular stereotypes have portrayed them to be. Among the people followed are Alex and Martin, a middle-aged couple planning to attend the festival together (these are what everyone would consider RUBS, Ilene, who comes from a long line of bikers and the rough-looking "Liddo" Jim, head of a group called the Ressurection Motorcycle Club (Someone I would rather not look twice at or ever associate with, if you look into his eyes when he is talking he looks completely dead spiritally).
Well the reason I bring this up is there are a lot of people that ride Harleys. I concider myself a biker but I don't like to associate with eveyone who rides Harleys. I would rather pull up to a set of newbies and help out then to ride up next to a group of 1%ers and give them the time of day. Yet at the same time I don't ride very often or talk with people who ride metrics, they just don't get it. That is just the facts. Does that make sense?

I was out for a ride yesterday with my wife. We stopped off for a drink and some snacks. When we were getting back on the road, we saw a bike pulled over on the side and a guy and gal standing there. I, naturally, pulled over and asked them if everything was OK. He explained that it was the first time she had been on a ride and her "butt hurt". I recommended a massage when he gets her home!
Now these folks had on BRAND NEW jackets with HARLEY-DAVIDSON emblazoned on the front and back. They were on a brand new duce (very nice looking with great wheels), new shiny helmets etc. You just couldn't miss that they were new to this and yes it was pretty funny at first glance. AND...They were just as nice as can be. We talked to them for a minute or two, (you know, "where ya from" etc.) and told them to ride safe....The guy said "go ahead, lead the way and we'll follow you for a little while." So I said, "OK" and pulled out. At every stop he pulled up beside us and chatted. This went on for 15 minutes or so and then he asked for directions to a certain highway and since it was a little complicated,I said "follow me" and I lead him to where he needed to be.
I could tell on the twisties that he was tentative. I hope he is safe as thereis a lot of traffic in the area of NY that he was headed. I have to tell you that they were perfectly nice, not annoying, and a pleasure to talk to.
Just thought I'd share the other side of the story..........
Did you offer to help with the massage?
Nice going I am sure you made their day/weekend.
My wife and I went out on a ride today. I had to keep pulling over because she was complaining her butt hurt. To be honest, I was a little sore but didn't want her to know that. Soooo, we kept pulling over about every hour and stand and talk.
What happened next surprised me. As we were standing there, this guy and his wife show up on their Harley. The guy asked if everything was alright, I couldn't believe it, I thought all the Harley guys were "tuff" guys and didn't give a shiet about anyone else. I've never had one wave to me, let alone stop to see if we needed help.
We talked for a bit and decided that we would "tag" along since we really didn't have a destination. You could tell the Harley guy was experienced, as we went through the twisties, he accelerated through the turns and I was too nervous to try to keep up. I found myself going over the center line and misjudging my path completely. Perhaps following him wasn't the smartest idea.
As we rode for a while, we realized it was time for us to go and asked directions to a highway at one of our stops. Apparently it was kind of complicated so he offered for us to follow him and his wife to the highway.
My first experience with fellow Harley riders and it was extremely pleasant. I now know what they mean about the brotherhood. I'll bet had I bought the Honda we were looking at, none of my fellow Honda riders would have stopped.
Thanks fellow HD rider.....
PS. My wife liked the massage....
PSS. So did I

Doesn't make sense to me. I cut my teeth on Metric bikes. I rode them for 30 years. I now own an 07 FXD (first Harley). I have always "gotten" it. Those that can decide who and who does not "get it" by the brand of bike they ride IMO, are ones that don't "get" it. Two months ago I was on a Suzuki, and I didn't get, but now that I own a Harley, I do get it? I' will stop and help anyone, regardless of the emblems on their tank.
Those are the "facts" as you understand them to be. That I get. I think the bike itself is the last piece of the puzzle as it relates to who does and does not get it.
Submitted with all due respect on this Memorial day.
