Arai and Shoei are the ones to beat. If you go with another brand it should be for a very good reason as these are the best.

I bought one of these last month. I like it a lot. Fits well and is pretty quiet. I would look into one of these. Nolan's were pretty cheesy years ago but are now high quality.

Had a Nolan modular first, crashed in it, walked, then bought a Schuberth C3. Very quiet, comfortable (for me) and with glasses, very handy. Have worn it thru 30 states and half a dozen provinces, temps from 100+ down to 45...can't imagine a significantly better helmet. First time at Sturgis I wore a half helmet; never again. Seen too many people who's face's were weather beaten way beyond their years. Got used to the modular quickly and easily; better peripheral vision and lighter weight than the Nolan as well. JMO...

The HD FXRG helmet looks pretty nice - isn't that an HJC?

Both great helmets. I wore a Shoei RF-1000 for years until I tried a Schuberth C3 Pro.

The Schuberth C3 Pro is quiet, comfortable and convenient. Not cheap, but worth every penny, and you can often find it on sale in the $500 range. I liked it so much I bought one for my lady a few days later. I also have a Schuberth SR1, a true full face, though with a "race" (read tight) fit, and trimmer outer profile for "performance" (ahem) riding.

The shape is probably even more important than size. Even in the same brand, one model may be shaped differently than another. That is why it is always better to buy a helmet in person instead of online.

Try on as many as possible. Look for things like cooling vents for summer as well as some type of device to prevent your breath from digging up the shield.

Buying a helmet based on snazzy graphics is the worst thing to do.

I am not sure what your question / comment meant when you asked what works for cruisers.

Fulmer used to be a great brand, but they sold out and I find their quality has dropped significantly.

Aria, Shoei, Bell, Nolan, HJC, etc are all good. Basically stuck with a major name brand that has a good fit for the shape and size of your head.

Another good feature on some models are changeable cheek pads in various sizes to get a more custom fit. Also get one that has a removable liner that can be washed in a washing machine.

Some full face helmets block some of your peripheral vision, so be aware that thatnis a potential problem with some helmets.

The last full face I bought was an HJC and it was so hot that when I would take it off in summer, I would have to wring my hair out because it was soaking wet with sweat despite me having short hair.

I switched to half helmet five or six years ago.

Unless a helmet has SNELL approval it doesn't even make my list of those I would even consider buying. After that, the only other things to consider are: Fit, Fit and Fit! Oh, and did I mention Fit? I currently own a Shoei FF that has my head set installed in it. I use it when my wife comes along (Intercom) and/or when riding in a group (CB Radio), I also have an HJC FF that I use as my general purpose helmet and then I also have, but rarely use an HJC 3/4 helmet. At one time I also had an Arai FF helmet which was a really nice helmet, but it was destroyed in an accident while saving my life. I came to in the E.R. with the officer standing at the foot of the guerney, holding what was left of my helmet, saying, "I have got to get me one of these!" When I buy another helmet it'll probably be an Arai.

I have several different lids for my melon!
My Full Face, my Modular, and sometimes my 3/4 helmet.

Here's a photo of my Bell RS-1, which has been discontinued. The cool thing is this helmet has a photochromatic shield! Turns light to Dark, to light and no need to shades when riding. The shield is $120.00 extra but well worth it to keep!

Nope the FXRG modular that converts from full face to 3/4 is make by shark. Posted a link to it earlier in the thread. Exact same as FXRG but 100 to 150 less dollars depending where you buy.
