I had a 2005 Heritage Classic, came to a stop, was talking to my wife, resetting the odometer, and got off with out putting the kick stand down. Bike fell right over. Didn't hurt it, though... Like you said, engine guards do work. It did hurt my pride, though...

Everybody gets distracted mentally every once in awhile.Just glad you had your moment at a stop and not while cruising.It's been my experience that an embarassment isn't as bad in front of strangers instead of people you know.Glad that the injury was to your pride and nowhere else.Seems like it heals faster than any other place.

i cant emagine what would make me forget that ,,,, to much to drink? then i wouldnt even be on it... i have a closed head injury and forget ALOT of stuff but thats pushin it.. lol.. whatever you where goin after musta been great lookin!....or somethin. haha

There are those who have, and those who will forget to put down the kickstand. I have a habit of swinging it out, then toeing the thing against the stop to verify it is down.

aaaaah I havent forgotten to put the side stand down but I did have a problem on my Beemer a few years back. I was hoisting it on the center stand and the starboard leg weld broke and the bike started falling away from me.
The port leg was down and locked and was not going to make things easy for me so all I could do was lay the bike over as gently as possible and hold it as long as I was able so it wouldnt just crash to the ground.
The dealer was good about it and replaced the damaged plastic and center stand under warranty.
