Yup, as I mentioned, the term has been around forever. However I was referring to what I "heard" used most commonly. I have manuals for most (HD) bikes from 1936 to present day. In addition to jiffy stand the MOCO also uses the terms front stand and side stand. They also refer to the rear stand, service stand, or center stand.
I don't want to get in trouble posting pics from all the manuals but since you used an example from the 40s here is a pic from my 40s manual. Note that removing front wheel they say to use the "front" stand.
I'm willing to bet if you asked 100 people that have been riding 35 years or more what it is, the vast majority would say kickstand. JMO
BTW, I'm also old and stubborn about the term "Enrichener ****" also, I say choke whether there is a butterfly in the carb or not.
