Any must do & must see places?
Towns / stops recommended on hill country drive?
We want to take a look at areas for possible relocation...was recommended to check out the Round Rock & Lake Travis area....any other places?
Thanks in advance!
Drive??
How far out into the hill country do you want to go?

PM me when you get into town with how much time you want to spend in the hill country and I'll help you with a route down the scenic back roads.

Having eaten at both of those places I will never understand why anyone would recommend them.

There are way better places to eat in the hill country.

If you are going to be on 6th street, stop and eat at Hut's. They are known for their burgers and malts.

Round Rock is getting rather populated. People have been moving there for the last few years. Georgetown is the same way. Lake Travis is very nice. Dripping Springs is another nice town just west of Austin on Hwy 290. If you continue west on 290 it will take you to Fredericksburg. It's a popular tourist location.

When you get here, welcome to Texas. Enjoy your stay in Austin.

WHats your point? TX has no income tax so that's a big plus

Tourist traps. Salt lick is at the bottom of my list. BB cafe has good pie and the homestyle food can be good occasionally. Why these places have fame is beyond me.

point is to look at all the facts before making a decision as big as moving. I don't live in texas, so i'm not an expert, but I work with a woman whose daughter works in Austin (a dr.). she said the same thing when I mentioned my s-I-l was thinking of moving there. 'stay outside Austin. property taxes in Austin are a lot higher than areas outside'. whether or not there is a state income tax, I would like to know about property tax before I moved there. other considerations, hoa fees? homestead exemptions? anything for disabled vets? etc.

Regardless of exactly where a person intends on relocating, it is always prudent to look at tax implications. I remember a guy at work moved, and we kept hearing him boasting that there were no state income taxes where he was moving to. He finally moved. The next time I heard from him he was paying $1,200/month in property taxes. He was still working which was ok, but for a senior citizen or retired person, that might have a significant impact.

Why the hell is everyone so damn defensive on this forum lately?

Opinions on food vary greatly. I enjoy salt lick because I'm not from Texas. I'm from Kansas City- BBQ capitol of the world All other Texas bbq is way too smokey for me.

If you do nothing else, take this ride. You will love it. Be sure to post a picture of the pie you eat at the Blue Bonnet Cafe (believe me, you will get a piece of pie!).
