Is it just me or is anyone else noticing a lot more bugs while riding at night? I live in Northern Illinois and I have been getting plastered with bugs. Last night I went out for a ride about 8 to clear by head and thought I was under attack. It was worse than riding in the rain. Some hurt, some just go squish on the face and the rest are just annoying. Sure I've had this happen in the past but that was when I was riding in the wee morning hours. Last night was at 8 - 9 pm. Stupid me forgot my do-rag so my hair was full of bugs. I had to stop at a light and clean my glasses so I could see. Where are all the frickin' birds and bats that eat the bugs - I can't do it alone.
Bugs are a fact of life just about everywhere. In Georgia, the June Bugs are as big as small birds. In Florida, the Love Bugs are mating now and leave eggs on your paint when they splatter--takes the paint off after 24 hours. There now, don't your bugs seem better with that perspective?
The cicadas sure have hit in the west and southwest suburbs. I see thousands every day in the Darien, Illinois area and in Elmhurst and GlennEllyn. I whacked a couple this morning riding to work. They have lots of guts and they aren't too bad tasting.
I live in SW Florida, and last weekend I rode to the bikefest on Okeechobee. The lovebugs were so bad it left about 1 inch of bug guts on everything. I'm just glad I had a windshield
Thats pretty nasty bob, I didn't even know what a love bug was till yesterday. I won't even bore you the bugs up north they are no match for those succkers. Hope they never find the northcountry.
I used to live south of Rockford. I remember those little white bugs that came every summer for a few days, millions of them. Don't recall much else.
Here I live in a agricultural area, tons of bugs year round. Bees, butterflies, knats, can't go anywhere without a bunch of them. Yeah, windshield.
