Another Sad Day
On Wednesday, rush-hour traffic moved slowly on Interstate 40 east of Harrah Road after an afternoon crash killed a motorcyclist on the highway, a patrol spokeswoman said.
About 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, an eastbound sport utility vehicle crossed the median and struck a motorcyclist head-on, trooper Kera Philippi said.
Investigators said the SUV blew a tire before crossing the median, Philippi said.
The motorcyclist, whose name was not released Wednesday, died at the scene.
"The accident impaled the motorcycle into the front of the SUV,” Philippi said. "The motorcycle was still standing.”
Two people in the SUV were taken to a local hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, she said.
The outside lane of westbound I-40 closed for about 2
hours while crews cleaned up the accident.
