Updated my 01 FXDWG from a 88 to a 95. SE heads. 37 Andrew cams. Rush 2 into 2 pipes. Question is.. Stock carb mods or a Mikuni carb (42mm).. which is the best to compliment what's already been done.
Welcome to the forum. Old question; same old answer...
Stock CV mods using stock CV parts and you will leave nothing on the table except you'll save a pile of money and fiddling
I've used the 40, 44 and 51 on 4 different builds. Tried a 42 Mik once; wasted effort; no dyno advantage, had to grind fins to fit...sold it and put on a CV40
I also avoid aftermarket jets and fairy dust parts.
Welcome to the forum from west MI. Drill the EPA plug covering the mixture screw, screw it in till lightly seated then back out about 1 3/4 turns, I put two #40 brass washers on the needle in the slide, this raise the needle just past the off throttle stumble, and maybe change the slow jet from a 45 to a 46. Google Joe Minton tuning the CV carb. Don't put in a Dyno tuning kit. Read Joe good information. Did a 95" kit in '05 with cams and the bike runs very well. A 46 jet is available at most metric shops. the washers at local ACE hardware. Adjust the idle mix screw as required. Good luck.
