they are cheaper because they are missing a few things you find on similar models. well mine for instance is the electra glide model. No radio no cruise. which put it 2-3 grand cheaper than the closest thing to it at the dealership.

I was under the impression they stripped off all the cop equipment before selling the bikes. At least every one I've seen around ATL for sale is missing all that stuff. Obviously this isn't true everywhere I guess.

Too many nice gently used Kings out there to be bothered looking for a crashed cop bike. Valueless.

Few things..
A) To answer your question - Yes
B) Depending on location, it is illegal to have police paint/decals and/or lights and siren even if turned off
C) Some locations it is illegal to sell a vehicle badged or equipped as such

I used to buy bikes from insurance auctions. 90% of them have good frames. Insurance companies bring bikes for estimate to dealers, where they get rip-off estimates. That is how bikes get salvage title. When repair estimate exceeds certain percentage of book value, bike gets salvage title or "parts only". I am pretty sure most "custom" painted bikes had some kind of damage.
I bought Mitsubishi Eclipse from insurance auction, it was marked "flood". The only problem it had was missing fuse. People, who are not mechanics, should buy new or non- repainted bikes.

Police seats are for police officers. If you're not gonna lay it on the line, go get a Mustang seat like the other civies.

Well he only asked for opinions. If you get off your bike so they can inspect the seat is it consenting to a search?

How much cushion to you get for not knowing the law?

It's NOT against the law to have a police seat on your motorsicle...as long as you don't sit on it.

I thought everyone started out with an old surplus stripped police bike with the outline of the removed stickers plainly visible and all your friends making fun of you because you can't afford a shiny new ride...
