I rode 30 years without one - crashed a few times, never too serious.
I was GIVEN my first bell in 2000 and I still have it. All my bikes have bells
Given to me by someone who cares and they are hung as low as possible, usually below the front peg or floorboard, without damaging them. They even make bell hanger, and I have them also.
Bottom Line it is a cool tradition and just a way of saying Take Care.
Thanks for the add, hoping i can be a positive member. I have a question about my bell. If my bike was bought with one and the previous owner made it a point that it came with bike and to keep it. Is it the same as someone giving me just the bell. I know its silly superstition, but also traditional.
Since it's a belief/tradition/superstition, the power of it is in what you believe about it. So, decide what you believe and act accordingly.
I've got two bells on my scoot, both given to me by a friend. They will go to the next bike when/if that ever occurs. However, I just bought my own motorcycle bell/urn for some of my mother's ashes, so I'm gonna risk it not coming from a friend. $150 is a little pricey for a friend to spring on a small bell/urn.
