Same here, bad back and hasn't had any riding experience. Before I got the SGS, she would go for short rides on the Sporty, but always where it was lower speeds. She hasn't had any longer rides yet, on the Glide, but says she is much more comfortable on it, the couple short rides she's taken with me.

A lot of my miles are to and from work and the weekends she works, I'll get out for awhile on my own.

She had just over 6K miles on her 2017 Road glide special when she totaled it two weeks ago. First time she has been down, and not her fault.

She was on I-75 south bound with cruise set. An 18-wheeler passed her, pulled back into the right lane when he was safely past her. Then his drive shaft failed and came out of truck, under trailer and my wife had no choice but to hit it square. Needless to say she went down. In the ER she kept trying to figure out why she couldn't ride it out. She kept saying I did what I was taught, hit is square. She was also a MSF instructor for 4 years.

Think you could have rode it out??

My wife always wears proper riding gear. Cruise was set when she went down. She has on her left side, 3 broken ribs, broken clavicle and a broken wrist. On her right side a sprained ankle. Two spots of road rash the size of a quarter where it when though her leather. She spent 12 hours in the ER, then I took her home. She is healing well. She had been to the dealer to buy a new bike, and working with them to have it custom painted again.

Look forward to riding with her again soon. She wants her new bike ready as soon as she is cleared to ride
Man...
Sorry to hear your beloved went down..
Godspeed her recovery.
I don't let semis pass me unless I'm pulled over..
Way too much chit flies off of them..mostly recapped trailer tires.

Damn Dave that sucks! I'm glad she's ok and that she isn't giving up riding. That's one crazy fluke of an accident. I know I couldn't have ridden out of a hit like that. Crazy.

I ride with a lot of women (on their own bike) who only want to stop for gas and they pee then. We put on several hundred a day that way.

I ride with guys who ride with their GF/Wife and it's almost always "lets go to the bar/dealer and hang out" and that's almost 100% driven by the person riding pillion. 20 minute ride, 4 hour "hang out".

I much rather prefer the top scenario than the bottom. Where I was coming from in my post based upon my experience.

Would love to have my wife come along with me (most of the time).
But due to her being rear ended (while driving her car) three times I doubt I will ever get her on another bike.
She used to have her own scooter for around town stuff.
After the second accident she was done.
Around town stuff we get by (most of the time).
It's the long trips that suck, I am hitting that point wear I want to see the US (on the bike).
Still working on a happy medium.....
So far we are doing vacation together.
Then other times while she is doing other stuff I go for a ride.
Last year was a visit to my father, then the kids & grand kids & a couple other trips (1-4 day) with friends.
I picked up a small single bike trailer so we can take the bike on longer vacations (so I can get some riding in) see how it goes.

She normally does not either. She was leading a less experienced rider, so she was staying close to speed limit. If she was alone or with me, she would have been going slightly faster than traffic.

I doubt anyone could have with those rims, and no air in either tire after the hit.

She is doing remarkably well considering her accident.

Normally over 8k a year riding on the bike, only 4k in the truck. As long as it is not raining on the way to work or below freezing Ill ride. The freezing part was due to totaling a truck a couple years back on black ice. Don't want that on the bike!

Wife rides passenger more than she rides her own. She prefers to be a passenger. I did make her go get her endorsement to make an informed decision of being passenger or riding her own and went out to buy her won bike when she was taking the safety corse. She dumped her bike when she was in a corner and hit a manhole cover that was sunken in the road. Since then she only rides short distances trying to get over her fear.

We both like to ride through the cones though with the local hog chapter. I use them skills every time I ride. It is nice being able to maneuver the ultra classic in ways most cannot. This year I am training to be a Road Captain so ill have many more miles on the bike! Ride hard and ready for anything to happen.

My wife is on the back of the bike about 95% of the time when I ride. Truth be told, when I do take the occasional solo ride, I always think how nice it is in that the bike handles better, it's a bit peppier etc...

Than usually no more than 10 miles down the road I'm thinking I'd rather have her on the back so we can find adventure together somewhere. A new coffee shop, a new little café for lunch in the middle of nowhere or whatever.

Years ago we talked about her getting her own bike, but after the initial rush of excitement about it.....she decided she would prefer to be on the back.

We've had some excellent adventures in our travels over the past 33 years. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

I know fellow riders will relate here, but I take a lot of good natured teasing at work for riding 200 miles for lunch or afternoon coffee :-)

I ride every day/everywhere. Sometimes that means a trip of just a few blocks or miles before i stop. If you only get on your bike when you intend to ride 100 miles or more, well, you ride however you want, but not everyone does it the same way.
