Default Custom Crossbones/ Softail fender

I see so many options out there for way overpriced fender options for the Crossbones but most require a springer seat which I think is sorta tacky on anything but a hardtail. I've always loved the kick of a softail fender but HATE how oversized the fender is on the bones ecspecially with the minimalist springer front end. So I finally picked up a used 200mm OEM bones rear fender for chopping I didn't want to use the stock considering the lines of the fender are pretty unfriendly for chopping and I thought I may have to ditch the idea and go back to stock. After several careful cuts a ton of massaging and welding I have the first bobbed 200MM softail fender that I've personally ever seen. Pretty excited to share with the guys here on the forum! Use my idea if your willing to potentially waste some money and a ton of frustration lol. It's not completely finished I have to fill a hole or two and it will be going to the body shop for a bit obondo and matching denim paint! I'd love to have the stock Pinstriping but am just happy to have a nicer *** end!

Now that's how the original fender should have looked. Good job. I've got a Nightrain often wondered if you could just chop off a few inches off the front end of it, from what you say a bit more complex than that. Have seen both an early springer and a NT with a similar job done, not sure if they did what you've done or had fenders specially made.

Your absolutely right. There's a few exceptions in Harley's lineup that are done just right. The bones and night train definitely needed this shorter fender. The hardest part about chopping this fender is the ECM and seat pan. I wanted to retain the factory setup and still be able to mount the seat properly. So you basically have to work around those if you want it done right. I could probably do it again if you have some extra money to play with a pick yourself up a spare fender I might be able to make one up for ya. Only issue is tail light and license plate they're minor compared to the size of that rear fender haha

What a great job you did there. I would love to have that done to my Softail Custom.

Thanks Big Mule! What sized tire is on a custom? If the fenders not flared out on the sides if could be really easy.

The bike is a 2008 Softail Custom and it has a 200 rear tire.

Oght, I wanted to see how you are making out with your rear fender?

It's at the body shop right now! Hopefully it's done soon. Have to figure out how I wants to move the license plate and tail/brake lights. I'm going to go axel mount I think

I had a 2005 Springer that I sometimes which I would of kept.

Fender looks great, will even look better when painted to match.

IF I may suggest. If going to axel mount license plate and brake light. Might want to consider right side axel mount. Your lower legs will thank you when pushing your springer around to move it.

Looks great!

That looks great. Isn't the pin stripe a decal under the clear coat? If so you could buy a set for the fender.
