All the more difficult when they are coming up behind you.
Hopefully some day she comes to the awareness that nothing she has going on is important enough to justify being a jerk.
Glad this didn't turn out bad. Sounds like a close one.
A lot of people react with excessive, irrational anger when they are "caught" doing something they shouldn't be doing. Odds are she was on her phone, not paying attention, came up behind you, and barely stopped in time.
Most people, in that situation, would be overcome with relief and a sense of guilt for almost causing an accident.
Others will mentally lash out at the other person. It is a psychological defense mechanism. That explains her horn and all the rest. Subconsciously, she knows full well she was 100% in the wrong, but her mind will not allow her to recognize or accept that fact.
All the hostility you experienced from her emerged from her subconscious mind. In an emotionally healthy person, that subconscious reaction would register as "I just made a mistake, I'll learn from it and hopefully avoid making the same mistake twice". In an emotionally crippled person, that reaction registers as "I can not admit to myself that I made a mistake because that would mean I am worthless. Therefore it must be the other person's fault. Therefore I will protect my ego by projecting all this rage on the other person. HE is the worthless one, not me."
Pretty sad, actually.
Years ago, I may have reacted differently (and did on several occasions).

Yesterday on my way home in my truck it started missing a little and the check engine light came on. Luckily I don't live very far from work so I limped on to the house and pulled the code. The code reader said it was the MAP sensor, which is an easy fix.
Deciding it was a good excuse for afternoon bike ride, I jumped on the Street Glide and headed toward Autozone. Our Autozone is on a street headed toward downtown and can get somewhat busy around the end of the day. Well anyway I'm riding down the street in the left lane (Autozone is on the left) periodically stopping for people to turn left. I put on my blinker, come to a stop, and prepare to turn left when this woman at a high rate of speed almost hits me from behind. She stops only inches from my back tire and lays on the horn, not just a beep or two but LAYS on it. As I turn she passes me in my lane, because the right lane is busy, almost hitting me again.
How would you have handle that situation?
Just for the record this was a residential street with a 30MPH posted speed limit.
Now, if you really want some creative replies, change your question to, "How would you like to handle the situation?" I'm guessing answers to THAT question would result in an amusing series of scenarios for beat-downs in every way possible.

You could file a civilian complaint. But you need her plate.. She might get a knock on the door and a warning, you maybe asked to show up in traffic court and the judge decides if she gets a ticket or they may put a note on her jacket.
Then you can stab her - the dump truck rule does not apply here.. lol
Totally agree after just get rear ended...

I had an incident sort of like that but I stopped and motioned for the driver to pull up. I informed them to stay off my *** and that I'd really appreciate too..
And I see that car from time to time and they stay two car lengths behind me now.
