I bought a 2003 Fatboy, basically the same bike, 2 years ago. It had tons of chrome but no performance mods. It had 16,000 miles, and I have added 13,000 troublefree miles myself. I got a super low price and could not be happier. I changed the cam chain tensioners at 25k just for peace of mind. Good luck.
You have been spoiling your wife and making it bad for the rest of us! There are plenty of creeks with rocks along the bank for her to wash clothes! Walking is healthy exercise for her! She does not need a car! You are only thinking of her health! There is nothing healthier than walking. You need to immediately implement this healthy program for your wife and go out and buy the bike of your dreams! She should want you to be happy after all the concern you are showing for her health. Let us know how this new program works out. Many of us will be following it closely. P.S. you may not ask for blow jobs during the interim program implementation.
Pure poetry...says it all! Remember...this option is all about your wife! Lol

Trust me it not her health I should be concerned about, it's mine. lol
If you are hard up for change, you could do much worse that finding a late 1990's heritage. The evos are solid as an anvil an you should be able to find a good one at a very reasonable price somewhere. I rode mine for 15 years and 180000 with no real issues over what anyone would consider normal wear and tear and good maintenance. That bike is still on the road. If I didn't like my shovels so much I'd get another evo.
I would for sure get a fuel injected bike and try and get an 07 or newer so you can have the bigger motor. Be patient, keep watching Craigslist the right deal will come along.
With the washer and dryer given up the ghost and my wife car on its last leg I need to buy used in order to buy the bike that I want. I have never bought a used bike, let alone owned a Harley, so I like to ask some questions in hopes of avoiding mistakes.
The bike I like to get is the Heritage Softail. I have located several ranging in model years 2001 to 2008. Newer models just don't fit my budget right now. In that range of years which years should I consider? Are there quirks or issues with the Heritage I should be familiar with? When kicking the tires what problem areas should I watch for? I am pretty handy - can I DIY routine maintenance?
Thanks in advance.
Best bang for the bucks is a late model EVO Softail. Prices are great, parts are plentiful, and the power plant is bullet-proof.
Oh yeah, and the costs of maintenance are minimal compared to newer models
