i see a lot of brand new and or a year old bikes for sale with low miles (1000, or less) for sale all the time. What's your opinion on why you think people do this?

Many (actually told to me by my dealer buddies)
* Too much bike and not enough rider
* Thought the HD or the bike thing was them and wasnt
* Bought the wrong bike
* Because they can
* Job or financial issues
* Physical ailment or injury

How'd we do?

They found out that owning a Harley didn't make them as cool as they thought it would...

Maybe they need to sell before the repo man gets it.
Maybe it was a "me or the Harley" argument with the wife.

Default In over their head

Numerous reasons. In over their head I'm sure is a big one. A lot of money tied up for nothing if you don't ride it. Etc. Ect. On and on and on. There's also the
" no love " bike. I bought a brand new low rider in 2000. I never fell in love with it. The bagger bug had bitten me years before. I just didn't know it at the time. Only put a few thousand miles on it over a few years. The new owner got a beautiful bike and a good deal.

Thought they wanted it and didn't.
Thought they could afford it and couldn't.
Found out the goofballs texting are more dangerous than they thought.
Had an unexpected bill and needed to unload it quick.

I encourage that behavior... That's how I bought 4 of my 5 Harleys.

I'm thinkin' it's the IDEA of owning a Harley. They think they wanna ride, but maybe they like the idea of riding more than the reality of riding. Then they get scared or just can't or won't make the time. It isn't all they dreamed it would be. Women simply won't drop their panties at the mere sight of them in their full SOA get-up

Maybe it's kinda like exercise machines or gym memberships. I can't remember how many exercycles and gym memberships my late wife bought with good intentions. Eventually the trips to the gym would start tapering off, then she'd stop going altogether while still paying the dues. Same with the exercycles. Pay a bunch o' money for 'em, then ride 'em regular for about a month. After that point they became yard sale material.

I think the #1 reason for this is:

1. They buy a new bike, it sits in thier garage the whole winter and they realize at the end of that winter that they are paying the $300 bike payment (plus insurance) for it to just sit there while they stare at it.

Thats the #1 reason i have heard so many friends of mine and thier friends buy a bike, have it for one year then sell it. I have owned my bikes outright my whole life, granted these are 4K and under bikes....it wasnt until this recent bike i took a loan out. Ive always told people in the past, if you cant afford to own a MC outright dont....in oregon with all the rain making the payments while it just sits there in your garage will kill you. I got around that by just riding it more lol.
