Default A Simple Question

Ok I'm 58, 5'10", and I weigh 225 lbs, will an Iron 883 be big enough to buzz around town on, or a sixty mile round trip to work and back with out struggling at 75 MPH? I will keep my Road King for the long hauls. I don't want to spend much money so I will buy a good used one, and I Do Not want to be seen on a Harley 500, or a 750, "LoL I'm not a teenager any more." Man, that even sounds stupid in my mind, "oh I ride a Harley 750"

Would think you could get a real nice used 1200 Sporty for not a lot more than an 883.

A few years back I used to have an '05 883L besides my '05 Springer. I would have been around 63 or 64 when I had it. I'm about 2" taller than you and at the time I weighed about 40lbs more than you do now. I never had any issues getting to 75 or more. I would take it out on some country roads and fly around the corners. It was fun to ride but the only problem that I had was I felt like a big jockey on a small race horse or in the words of a friend of mine, " when I rode the 883 I looked like a monkey humping a foot ball." With you being a little younger, shorter and weight less, it might work ok for you.

I'm 6'2 260lbs and road my wife's 2005 883 with a Frankenstein trike kit back home from the initial purchase and had no problems at 75. The total trip was about 45 miles. I actually was comfortable on it using the highway pegs, but how I looked is a different question. Especially with the pink striped fenders.

I am 6-3 and a lot heavier than you. I put 31,000 miles on my 1200C over the last 4 years. When I bought my Lowrider I would not get rid of the sportster as it is to fun to ride. It will cruise 80+ no problem so don't be worried about that.

If you have to ask...

Seriously, I'd be more comfortable on a bigger bike, which is why I've never considered a Sportster. But you should rent a bigger bike and see how you like it.

I rode two up with my wife a lot when I had an 883. We weighed maybe 280 pounds together. Never had a problem.

The bike will handle you, no problem.

The only short coming (other than the seat) is the short fuel range. Might look to a 1200C for the 4.5 gallon tank.

It will handle you but I would go with a 1200.

Well I got to thinking way too much, but then again maybe not. It is possible to build a scrambler out of a sportster, or just have a little back up bike, if the Road King is down. I am also thinking gas mileage, I have a lot of thoughts running through my mind, and I could split the difference and get a Dyna Street Bob. After all said and done, I probably wont do anything, but dream, wish, and hope.
