Rode a 2017 rk with a stage 4 at americade this summer...gotta say I really liked it alot but not enough to jump ship from my 08 cvo rk...very similar power till 4th gear and then I think the m8 would start to pull away...but not enough. Well then I put about 2k into my bike ...staying stage one but getting better pieces and adding a few upgrades for a future big bore. Now I have some regrets spending that money as I've been to the dealer a few times and stared at the new Road king special...actually sat on it today...pretty daring for me because usually that's the point of no return but I had my accountant with me ...a.k.a. my wife...she just shook her head and said ...we're here for mine today and she got a sportster for herself...I got a funnel for filling the primary.
thanks!!! I've been threatening to "pull the trigger" on the funnel for awhile...as soon as I saw this one in harley orange I knew it was destined to be in my garage.
I had the same first impression of the hydraulic clutch. I didn't like it. After 4K miles I don't notice the difference anymore, except when stuck in a traffic jam. The new clutch doesn't go away like my cable operated one. I love that.
I demo'd a Road King while getting some brake line issues fixed on my 13 Ultra Classic.
I think the handling definitely is much improved. More sportier feel all-around. The front end seems more planted and solid without the squishy/spongy feel when braking. I definitely felt more torque in the engine as well. The ride was more sportier in general.
I actually didn't want to demo it as I thought I might like it so much based on the reviews of the new bikes that I might start thinking about it. But it didn't totally blow me away. It was nice though.
I rented a '17 RK not long ago and was worried about the same thing, that I'd have to sell off one of my other bikes and get me one of those new M8s.
I wasn't impressed enough to want one. The engine clattered something awful. But, I've heard from some that theirs is quiet, and some who said theirs is noisy too. But yeah, it had good power
