I still remember being at the dealer, jumping from the Road King Classic and the Anniversary Edition. Pulling my hair out trying to decide which bike to buy. And one of the biggest issues for me was the sadlebags. In the end, not being able to LOCK the leather bags made up my mind. Security won out over old school styling.
With hard bags painted to match they would be my choice, with black they look like chit. If you don't paint to match got with the leather.
That ain't gonna happen, the most I'd put into the bags would be some pinstriping. I definitely am not a fan of the leather bags and surprising I thought this poll would go heavily leather but it has not.
The fender has pins only, all I would do is pin the bags but that's it. I would cost way too much to paint those bags. It's 87 of 100 of a Limited Paint Set.
Function--Definitely hard bags.
Style--Leather for sure.
I have HAD and HAVE both and looking at the workmanship on the leather bags on my wife's Heritage as well as the bags on my Anniversary Springer (fringed) makes it clear that they are much more beautiful that the hard bags on my CVO Ultra.
