Default Production Date?

I've seen several threads where people tell the exact date that their bike was made. It might be a stupid question but where do you find this information?

In my case, it was in the paperwork when I bought my bike. One of the documents was the "line card" that was on the build pallet when the bike came down the assembly line. That's how I know mine was built on Wednesday, September 1, 1993, and was the 18th bike made at York that day.

The production date generally makes your bike one year older! LOL.
