The *** on my choke cable broke on a 1200 custom so I need to replace the cable with anew one. The service manual doesn't say anything about how to replace the cable. This morning I was looking at it and I had the air filter assembly off and it appears that I may have to remove the gas tank to access the area behind the carb where the cable attaches. Has anyone had any dealings with replaceing their choke cable? Any tips to make this a simple repair instead of removing the gas tank?
Take the carb off. It's a small ball on the end of the cable that fits into the carb. Be careful tightening the plastic nut that holds it onto hte bracket at the ****. It will break if tightened too much. No need to ask me how I know. I had mine replaced while having some other work done. WOuld have done it myself if the damn manual had said anything
That choke **** is cheap, easy to break. I broke mine the second month, didn't bother taking it back to the dealer, replaced it with a radio volume **** no kiddn' , how does it look?
They don't sell the choke **** by itself, you have to get it with the cable, that's why I keep the cable and put a replacement ****, less work.
