I am scratching my head on possible finding a low mile used unit.. Im thinking an older one to keep the cost down.. Can you guys help me with a few questions?
* What are the better years for these?
* Any significant issues to keep an eye open for?
* What would a good lower mileage bike run approximately - Im seeing numbers all over the map
* Did I lose my mind thinking about getting one of these?
I still have my Heritage so there'll be a big twin in the garage.
The later, the better. The 1250 engine and 5 gallon tank are worth it as are ABS and the antitheft system. The latest bikes have reduced reach pegs. The Street Rod is the handling variant.
* Any significant issues to keep an eye open for?
Earlier models had fuel level sensor issues. Rubber crankcase breather pipes routinely crack and douse the top of the engine. Otherwise, bulletproof.

I got a 2014 in 2016 with 4K miles for $10K. Probably overpaid a tad, but really wanted the Anthracite and '14 was the last year they offered it.

Yes, welcome to the asylum.

The V-Rod makes a great second bike for local trips. I'm assuming you tried one on for fit - the common complaint is the control placement. If you're over 6' you should fit fine. They handle better than you'd think and performance is slotted mid-way between the metrics and old iron. It's a niche bike for what became a niche audience.

2006-2007 VRSCR. 5 gallon tank, mid controls, 40ş lean angle, better suspension and Brembo brakes. The best V-Rod (IMHO) without question. I won't give this bike up for anything.

Im over 6 feet.. I rode my buddys bike.. It was a blast. I never rode one before.. Just looking for an easy fun bike...
I have a 2007 VRSCD comes with the 1130 engine but has mid controls with highway bars so it helps with long rides. It does have a 5 gal gas tank and can go about 180 miles on a tank of gas. It is great for day trips but if longer I take the Limited.
They are well made , reliable and have very few issues if any at all . I owned a 2008 VRSCDX for five years. I used to be a dealership mechanic , V rods only came in for routine maintenance and tires , which I factored in when deciding to buy one or not.
I bought all of the parts to put mid controls on mine when it was new , saddle bags too . I did several trips on it .
