I know I brought up a sore subject but as much as I don't like it I going to be moving there and need Help with the current rules. Its been 10yrs since I have had to deal with Sol Cal and all of its smog rules and that was with my car. Here's the deal 2012 Heritage classic just rolled over 3000 miles on her the only mods that I have done white walls and screamn eagles mufflers. When I changed the muffles I did not see any catalytic converters so I don't believe my bike has any emissions on it, at least for Ca standards was wondering if any one here has this same problem what can be done to make it pass Ca emissions?
Luckily you can register your bike since you moved from IL. I think you have 10 days from when you enter CA to register all your vehicles, but usually you can lie about it. I use to live in Waukegan, such a lovely place (sarcasm). Oh and the best thing to do is make an appointment for the DMV. Dont even bother going in without one. Unless you like to spend all day at the DMV. Also the first thing you do is get your car inspected then go into the office. I made that mistake by going to the office first, get my car inspected, then go back to the end of the line and start over again.

You've got a problem. It needs to have 7500 or more miles on it. There's also a Federal EPA sticker that needs to be on the frame. No exceptions, and if it gets rejecthttps://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr9ed once, the VIN goes into a database and it can never be registered in CA. Lots of threads about this all over the internet. See the link:

That 7500 mile law does not apply if he is a resident in another state and is moving to Ca. 7500 miles only applies if a ca resident buys a vehicle out of state and then tries to import it to Ca.

When I moved from Oregon 4.years ago, my '12 only had 3,000 miles on it. All the did was check the frame VIN# and motor#.

Good advice. However, there are some exceptions, such as for military. There are other execeptions as well... Best to check the CA DMV website for specifics.
Thank you all for the information I am still IL and will be moving in the near future and was looking for a heads up on what to expect when I get back there. It's been a long time since I had to deal with Ca smog regs, and I never had to deal with a bike before. This gives me a lot of great intel plus I did keep my stock mufflers so worst case scenario I can always but those back on for smoging purposes.

Your Illinois car still has to pass Ca smog but I think '99 and newer only need an OBDII port check. Older cars still need to run on rollers with a tailpipe sniffer every two years.
You will need to get the VIN's on both your car and bike verified to register in Ca. A city cop can't verify VIN's unless they have been to auto theft school.
Keeping stock parts is a good idea in case Ca starts doing motorcycle smog checks.
The form is in the link so you know what to expect. https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/wcm/co...df?MOD=AJPERES
