Gee whiz, I guess the jury has spoken eh? Maniac you have been judged by your "peers" to be athoughtless uncaring unloving parent. You should be ashamed of yourself. But give your daughter a "hi five" for me will ya? Don't think you have to worry about her becoming a lemming.
PS... you better not confess that you have a beer and ride afterwards either Paul... they'll be stringing you up for sure!
Ahhh, it don’t bother me a bit. I liken the comments made by some here to a rock stuck in the tread of my boot. Slightly irritating, but easily ejected with a simple flick.
eeeyah. seems a little existentially aware for a nine year old. my bs meter is twitching because it doesnt sound like something a kid would say.
however, it does sound like something an adult would attribute to a child in an effort to present a supposedly unbiased opinion. while cute, i dont take too many safety tips from children.
dont mean to be a grump on this, im just sayin.
I agree dog.....i think EVERYONES'S bs meter pretty well pegged on that one
You can just take your BS meters off of peg. I know this girl and her family, I have ridden with them, and they have been guests at my house. It would not surprise me one bit that she made such a comment, or something very close to it.
As far as any of you that think that Paul would be an irresponsible parentjust don't have a clue.
Bill
Thanks for the kind words there Bill. The comments didn’t bug me; in fact I found them rather flattering. If what she said matches the wit of an older, more mature person based on the opinions of others, I consider it a compliment. For being a 10 year old, she sure has great sense of humor. Just like here mama.
As far as responsibility goes, I probably would have her wear the helmet even if it weren’t a law, simply because of the fact that kids are easily distracted and like to fool around and may not have the presence of mind to react appropriately in a given situation.
I know that there are poeple that firmly believe that it won't happen to them, or that helmets do no good.
My 10 yr old daughter races Bicycle motocross, and is currently in the Top Five in the Nation, in her age group. She also races mountain bikes, so needless to say, she is (for her age) fast, and for the most part fearless.
Two years ago, while practicing a series of jumps, she came down just a bit short, and clipped her back tire off of the lip of the jump. This had the result of pitching her face first into the face of the next jump. Even with a motocross style chest protector on, she ended up with bruised ribs. Even with a DOT approved motorcycle (yes, a MOTORCYCLE helmet on a bicycle), she ended up with a concussion.
We all can admit that pavement is harder than dirt, and we all can agree that the speeds you travel on your motorcycle is significantly higher than what a kid can ride on a bicycle. So, if a kid can end up with injuries from a bicycle crash, what do you suppose can happen in a motorcycle wreck?
Something to keep in mind while I'm running my Ultra around the dirt track and over a jump. You want to wear a helmet, then wear one. What anybody else does should be of no concern to you.

"No, but I've never felt so alive!"
Uh oh. Looks like pappa had best keep an eye out for that one. Before ya' know it, she'll be introducing ya' to a guy named Spike who rides a racer.
Or a guy named Rat who rides a chopper with no back rest.
Boy you aint lying here, I caught untold amounts of flak from my girls dad till i got a sissy bar for her. Now I hate the thing because she doesnt have to hold onto me anymore. Her dad probably just didnt want her boobies rubbing my back, lol.
