Motorcycle companies should get a break from these crazy EPA standards
You have to be a fool to ignore the present facts.

VERY well put, I think it is pure arrogance to belive that we can alter the climate as much as Algore and his hired minions try to make us believe. For those of you who have been sucked into the madness I have some carbon credits I will sell you.

Didnt you hear about all the cars them dinosaurs were driving just before the last ice age??

The whole "global warming" thing is a joke.. Has anyone noticed that it has suddenly become a HUGE issue? Wonder why?? Who is making it an issue?? Think they would like to get back into office?? Its a political football. From the info I have heard recently, the sun's temperature is actually rising. Think thats because of "mans influence"??
One more thought, how is Mr. Gore (natures stuart) getting from place to place to spew his global warming information to the mass'?? I dont believe its in a Hybrid vehicle...
And coming down too hard on them would cost votes and most importantly all those campaign contributions which are required to run again for reelection. Much easier to slap the motorcycle industry to its knees because, they are a much smaller group, and people who are in one way or another are connected to motorcycles are often perceived as not quit as acceptable as people who are not. This makes the industry and motorcyclists a perfect target for legislation that looks like something is being about the environment, with out alienating the politicos from all those votes and most importantly all that campaign money.

Global warming is a freakin joke...what do we have 100 years worth of data?
Everybody needs a job. Who do you think funds all of these studies...
Dont know if I agree with him about global warming though.
In all reality...........motorcycles and off road vehicles HAVE been getting a break.
It isjust lately (the EPA tier two emission standard) that ORV and MC's have been required to step up to meet the new standard of 2008~2010.
You can purchase a GSXR1000 that goes 170 MPH and is whisper quiet. I personally do not "see" the big deal of what the EPA is doing emissions wise. I deal with it every day, and so far nothing has stopped me from making power.
Now.... all the noise restrictions that have popped up ARE going to put a BIG BIG damper on how we will be able to modify our bikes.
The Federal EPA stamping on your OEM mufflers WILL EVENTUALLY become the only "approved" exhaust system PERIOD.
By 2010 the manufacturers WILL make it harder for the aftermarket and individuals to "tamper" with EFI and pipes and the fines WILL get stiffer, especially in California because of CARB.
BUT there WILL always be away around that.
Then again, what do I know, I just work in the motorcycle exhaust industry............
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Not agreeing at all.
The Earth's CO2 levels are the highest in our history, and something has to be done about it on any and every level..
I'm not a tree hugger, in fact I'm the opposite, but the facts here are clearly in front of us..
You think bikes have bad regs.
You got to be kidding.
The diesel engine makers are going to all new levels of controling soot and CO2 output.
Guess what? The diesel engines just seem to be getting more powerful and cleaner each and every year.
What to point the finger at something?
Point it at Harley Davidson for being archaic, and not creating a better, more efficient combustion chamber in time..
I cannot believe the otherwise sane people who buy into this global warming crap.

Maybe I missunderstood you..
Motorcycles are, for the most part are light years behind(Harley probably leads the bunch in being behind) in emissions controls. Emissions regulationsare not a bad thing. Its not simply the "green" mentality driving it either. I dont buy into global warming one bit. Now, acid rain, smog, respritory problems, etc, I believe in them.. Well, yea, internal combustion engines contribute their fair share.. One example I would pose to anyone who doesnt believe emissions regulations are a good thing would be to stand at the tailpipe of a '196? _____(fill in your favorite vehicle). Then stand behind a new vehicle(again of your choice) and describe what you see, smell, hear, taste... Its inefficient combustion from the word go. Todays diesels, for example are being described as producing less emissions from their tailpipe than you would find in a normal breath of air in LA. Harley's Fuel injection is a HUGE stride forward but still using 1980's technology. Mine still has a carb, but I have no problem with progress in that area. Todays cars are MUCH more regulated than motorcycles and are reaping the benifits for it. They are much more powerful, efficient, comfortable and reliable than ever before..
I dont think its a bad thing.. Someone needs to kick the cycle mfg's in the *** and get them going..
