Options for motorcycle dash cam?
Been checking out cameras for hard mounting a dash cam behind the windshield on a Road Glide. Maybe around $100 or so. There is not much info on these i can find. There are several dedicated MC dash cams but they seem to all have one weakness in that the actual camera is not waterproof although the lenses are. I can see the pictures, if it has holes of any sort for an SD card or a microphone it is NOT waterproof. Even though it will be behind a windshield there are still times when it will get very wet. So far i have come up with the idea of an action type camera in 1080P(Go Pro type) that IS waterproof and has a loop record option, then hard wire it to bike or plug into lighter socket. Anyone have any experience with these? A Go Pro is out of the question, there are plenty of clones around that will work just fine. You don't want to leave an expensive camera of any type mounted on your bike for someone to steal, hence the reason for not going over $100.
I use the ION sport cam. Water resistant and very durable and the battery last's around 3 to 4 hrs. On a long ride I have two cams. You have to dump the SD card every day. I'm still waiting on a decent loop cam myself.

I have just been looking on ebay. There is a bewildering array of action cams and starting around $50 some of them have loop recording but i know you get what you pay for. I was hoping someone would chime in and say, " hey i have a XYZ waterproof camera with loop recording and it works just fine" Otherwise i may go blind looking at cameras on the monitor.
Garmin needs to release a motorcycle specific GPS unit with a dash cam built-in. They currently offer automobile GPS units with both functions. I've mentioned this in the past to Garmin sales reps. They agreed it was a good idea and said they would pass on the suggestion up the food chain.
I had a waterproof camera (mini camera in a waterproof housing) with external feed and buttons for the camera built-in in the housing. I mounted it at my screen but looking back the videos I got dizzy of the vibrations and shaking. I could compare with videos made by helmet cameras of friends of me and of the same rides we made and they were much much much better in quality, hardly vibrations and no shaking. I dismounted my screen camera and decided to go further saving money this winter for a decent waterproof helmet camera next spring. Maybe more expensive than my screen camera (US 60 including waterproof housing) but forty times better in quality of video images.
