i just got a harley and it has a revtek 100 engine on it with a baker 6 speed my prolem is when i try to start it the battery dies really fast if it doesn't start right up, the motor cranks slow and hard even with the compression release's and it it doesn't fire in 2 or 3 attempts the battery dies..... do i just need a bigger cca battery?
Not sure just bought the bike but the guy i got it from warned me of this
so i was looking at a new high cca battery to see if that fixes it, he did say it had a ne starter but because of the high compression of the revtec 100 it was hard on batterys and starters
First of all, you don't have a Harley. You have a bunch of Korean aftermarket parts that apparently don't work well together. Maybe the battery they put in it isn't sufficient for that engine. Or...Find out for sure why your charging system can't maintain the battery. Could be the wiring isn't the right gauge. Maybe try a Spike 1.4KW starter.
The problem with that foreign crap is that they cut corners a lot on things like this, and one thing becomes another, and another, until it becomes difficult getting to the root of the failure.
Sorry, but someone needed to say it.

all good points, but i lean more to a defective battery. shouldn't be dead after a few cranks. check the volts before and after. if its undersized or the wiring is faulty it would just crank slowly. check for temps after you attempt to start it. anything getting hot? could also be the PO cranked on that starter for 20 minutes and burnt out half the coils in it.

if the ignition timing is too high ..(advanced) it will be very hard to start ...retard it a few degrees and see if that helps ...
The older Revtech 100's had that problem until they redesigned the cam for easier cranking.Known problem on the earlier engines from Revtech.Contact Revtech for more info.
