I had considered going west from Houston. The traffic on 10 is hit and miss though, as is 45. Going east into Louisiana is garbage. I've honestly considered going up through east tx toward Texarkana for my IB run. Just way too much traffic on the interstates for me much these days.
The interstate is about the only option to get that distance in 24.
And that's what doesn't appeal to me. Interstate is boring enough. Now, if I were actually trying to get somewhere, then that'd be different.
But just to go 501 miles, and then turn around? From Houston? How about going north?
Better yet, how about a huge circle?
Most Texas back roads are 70+mph with plenty of shoulder and most move over so you can roll on. I figure any north west or west route would be good.
I used to run most of east Texas a few years ago and you could really move on the back roads.
I'd have to map out a loop. There are some good open 4 lane US highways I think you could get it done on. Did I mention I hate the interstate? Lol
There are some good loops that will work. That's what I'm leaning toward at the moment. There's also a RAT ride (Ride Around Texas) that is basically riding the whole perimeter of the state that looks really fun.
