Im putting this in the general chat as it covers a few different bikes.
1st question, my dealer as a few 2017s on the floor and wondering where to start without coming off like rude. Im thinking 2k off the top given that I know the new 2019s will be announced in about 3 months.
2. I can not seem to find the GVWR for the 17, 18 touring bikes.
3. Ill be test riding almost everything in a few days, anything out of left field on these new M8s I should be looking for?
I would offer 30% off MSRP and go from there and would NOT pay more than 20% off MSRP.
On the touring bikes invoice seems(from whats posted online) to be ~20% off MSRP. That for current model year.
A year old bike, about to be a 2 year old bike, they better be wanting to move them. The dealer I use also has a few 17 ultra limiteds I have been mulling trading my heritage off for one. I think MSRP is 28k(they dont have any vivid blacks left) and my opener would be 20k and I personally would be pretty firm there. I would tell them my offer would stand until the 2019's come out, then it would likely drop to 18k...
With a 17 I would want to address the oil pump immediately with the updated version from Harley... The dealer will likely not discuss doing this since they dont seem to acknowledge the problem. I would also want to do the trans migration fix that has the massive thread going in the M8/Touring forum(cant remember which). At least with an 18 you have a CHANCE of it at least having the new oil pump.
Look at 2017 value in NADA and KBB. That's what your bike will be worth when you sign the papers and roll it out of the building.
I couldnt disagree more. Sure the dealership and banks will look at NADA for value, but be advised owners are having a hard time selling used Harleys for $5,000 below NADA guidelines. Its a buyers market. Personally, Id look at private owners before I went to a dealership for a used Harley.

You are welcome to disagree, I was trying to answer his question regarding new bike value with hard numbers aside from trying to track down each deal so and so got from dealer X. He may want a new bike with a warranty and not a used bike someone has tried to install a stage 27 kit and beat the snot out of.

Thanks.
Plenty of buyers get buyers remorse - look for a great deal from that direction - first know exactly which bike you want then SEARCH. Rosie's 1901 in mobile has lots of bikes as I am describing. shipping is easy. https://rosies1901.com/

YMMV
My apologies, I misread the OP. I was under the impression he was looking to buy used.
A friend bought a 17 Road glide off the showroom floor for $3000 off sticker, the day they rolled out he 18's. I just bought a 18 Road King for $1800 off sticker back in April. It's their job to make money, it you're job to keep as much of it in you're pocket.
new: i would go ask for a buyers order & tell him you have financing approved from your own bank, maybe get a 90 day draft, then re-visit him until the 19's come out.
I did this with an old SGS i wanted to dump, and like above guy, i went in the day they put the 18's on the floor, and he came off another $3k that day to get rid of a 17.
used: buy off CL, so you can get a free Stage one, but check the VIN at the dealer to see if it is sumping or transferring?
