Just curious if anyone here has a WindVest on their bike, and if so would you recommend it?
I ride a Dyna Street Bob and am looking to reduce wind buffeting. I'm about 5'7", so I'm leaning toward the 14-inch WindVest over the 16-inch one. Also, not sure if this makes any difference or not, but I wear a full-face helmet (Gringo S) when I ride.
WindVests are a bit pricey, so before I dish out the cash I would just like to hear any reviews on it, good or bad.
I have WindVest on 2014 Wide Glide. Top grade construction. Easy to mount on handlebars and take off. I use for longer rides on highways. Remove for daily rides.
i have 14” smoke. 14” will be fine for you with FF helmet. They are narrower than windshield. You will get some wind around shoulders. But it eliminated pounding and bugs in chest. Get a windshield if you want full protection.
Checkout Memphis Shades fairing. They give more protection.
I went with the Memphis Shades small windshield. I believe its the Del Rio shield. It is very similar to the Windvest, but what I like more is the MS windshield attaches to the forks. The WV attaches to the handlebars and makes it more work when riding on the interstate.
Ive been very happy with the MS on my bike, and I like the minimalist look. It does just enough to keep the wind of my chest which really helps my bad back.
You may may want to look in the Softail classified ads. A couple of months ago someone was selling a WV for $100.
I had a Windvest on my Street Glide and it really made a difference with head wind and keep in mind I had a full fairing but still experienced wind pushing my helmet back! The WV was the ticket and I know you will be very happy with that addition!
I think any of the Memphis Shades "Sportshields" or handlebar mounted shields would be perfect. They block the wind off your body, and most off your head, but they don't "push" wind like some bigger shields would. I think I have the Shooter or the on my '13 Dyna, and it's PERFECT! Here's how it looks on mine:
I have a 14" Windvest that I used occasionally on my Dyna Super Glide. Nice quality piece, and actually looks decent on the bike.
I came to the conclusion however that I hate windshields and haven't used it for several years. PM me if you're interested, I'd sell it for a decent price.
