Default sobering stats

Here are some stats I came across today that really made me stop and wonder about. From the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2016 there were 5,286 motorcyclist fatalities. Of that number 2,089 (41%) were NOT wearing a helmet. I know the argument about individual rights and freedoms but seriously?? Yes you can go ahead in some states and not wear a helmet and take your chances but some one has to clean up the mess. Even worse were the BAC stats. 25% of the motorcycle fatalities had a BAC over .08. What the F!! Does anyone really think it is a good idea to go out and get legally intoxicated and then get on a motorcycle and drive around??? Talk about a death wish
Just my opinion I know.

Respectfully - the data as you present it is flawed
A) MC fatalities vs Cage Fatalities - what is the ratio of bikes on the road vs. cages on the road
B) Do the fatality ratios line up?
C) What is the fatality ratio of cage vs mc per million miles rode or drove?
D) Then you have the helmet vs non-helmet - the numbers are nearly even
E) And... your mixing stats - Helmet vs no helmet. Alcohol and legal limits.

What if you were a Hawaiian Guy. You wore white leathers. You rode a BMW and a sales guys said hello. Your super model wife was drunk and fell off the back. And it was a 13RK... Does anything change. Did Rob have to stab any one?

Just stating numbers mean ****. You need facts behind it. Welcome to my world of insurance sciences..

So 3,197 riders were wearing helmets that died? Looks to me that not wearing a helmet according to those stat's is safer.

Of that 41% how many did it matter that they were lidless?
I can remember at least 15 that I investigated that all it would have done is made it easier to id them.

Slight error on the percentages there, not a lot.

Playing Devil's Advocate, percentages can work two ways... if 25% had a BAC over 0.08 then that means 75% were under 0.08... so those NOT drunk are more likely to die than those drunk.

(No, not standing behind that, just saying how %% works two ways - 25% are this is also means 75% are that)

1:11 as I understand the stats.
But, then again, they're stats. We all know stats are mostly based on someone's agenda.

Now, regarding alcohol/drug consumption, like helmet vs. no helmet, it IS a choice. (Maybe not a good choice, but a choice just the same.)

And when this driver, a texting teen, or a multi-tasking Soccer-Mom makes a left turn across your path in their Lincoln TownCar, Tuner car, or SUV, helmet or not is a moot point, you're toast.

Where's that damn horse beating icon. Seriously though, the beating a dead horse on this topic is "just my opinion, I know". ;-)
