Default New FXRG leather jacket

https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...leather-jacket

I know the old FXRG leather jacket was popular on this forum. I wonder how this new one will do?

I really like my fxrg jacket for spring and fall riding, it’s a well made heavy coat. It’s way too hot for summer riding though, it will be interesting to see if the new design is cooler.

For $650, it better be lined w/gold.

I have the older style fxrg.i bought mine used for $150 and has been a great jacket.the older ones had an issue with zippers which I haven't experienced. Great jacket but I wouldn't buy new.i'd look for a good used one.they're out there.jmho.

That actually looks pretty good - although they have removed the zip in thermal liner that the older one had and now appear to make you have to buy it separately. That will probably add another $200.

I have the last model and it's been a good jacket. When it's hot you can remove the waterproof and thermal liners and even zip off most of the leather panels to give a fully ventilated mesh jacket. Perfect for very hot weather. When it's cold, zip it all back together and it keeps you super warm.

My main gripe with it was that the zippers were overly complicated and although it was fully waterproof, the waterproof liner was underneath the leather, so you would stay dry, but you would still be wearing a soaking wet leather shell.

I looked at the Switchbacks last yr (I thought the textile was a possibility). I wear my 2001 or 2 model fxrg all the time. It can get a little hot at times but it's leather and I expect it. Part of riding since I can remember is not moving along in climate control. Not much worse than a car w/o AC which was the norm at one time, lol. Except for the pulls all coming off it has been a great jacket. It has two full length vents and one across the rear so don't see the big deal about the triple vent being anything new. All those little zippers on the Switchback may be nice to vent but I passed. My zip in liner is not insulated or waterproof but I layer and use rain suit. I wouldn't ride in rain for any length of time w/o rainsuit. I would never buy sewn in armor. Mine has pockets and it was easy to update to better and lighter armor. I saw the overpants and they are way overpriced for what you get I think. I use overs a lot and wouldn't think of buying them--they wouldn't fit my short self anyway--they only come in a 32 inseam?? I found it interesting that they are using Dianese ideas/product, apparently. As someone mentioned, I would look for used. I have a 1980 jacket that is still in great shape after lots of use. I can even fit in it again but sewn in padding/armor and no vents period. For me the 2001 was a great upgrade and not just because it fit which was the big motivator back then-got too fat.
