Default Mystery Plug

I just got a 2011 Sportster 883 Superlow, and I'm wondering what this plug is that is tucked away behind my left-side panel where the battery is. It is seemingly electrical. Anybody know?

Mystery plug, just free-floating behind my left-side cover, next to the battery.

Thanks!

It's for a trickle charger.

Look what it attaches too. Mine looks just like it and attaches to battery and plugs into Harley's 850 or so miliamp maintenance battery charger.
Walmart has a Bell one also that will work with it.

Trickle charger. Buy the plug in unit and you can keep your battery charged all winter.

It is a "Standard" for just about any battery trickle charger/battery maintainer made for a motorcycle. You'll also find that there are portable air compressors for your tires that are made to fit it as well as some portable work light that you might have to use if your are caught it the dark with a break down and need to see what you are working on to get it back up an running. It is a nice design as it makes it so you can only hook it up with the right polarity. If you remove the cover on the plug you will see a hole on one side and a metal male plug on the other side. The hole is the positive and the male plug is the negative. That way, if you fail to put the plug cover back on (or it falls off) the only part that can touch the frame (or other metal on the bike) it won't short. Of course that means that the plug on the battery tender will be opposite in that the hole will be the negative and the male pin will be the positive.

They also make a USB adapter that plugs into it so you can power USB devices (phone, GPS, etc). We put one on my wife's bike--works as advertised.

I'm sure it's fine, but you may want to check it first to assure it's wired correctly. Pop the battery cover and look at the leads.

I have my trickle charger hung on the wall near an outlet for convience. If I’m not riding for better than a week during decent weather, boom, it’s there. In the winter, keep it on the trickle
