Abus Granit Extreme Plus 59 integrated chain lock beats a cable and probably any other chain lock available. It will slow down most street thugs and casual crooks if used properly.
Oxford Monster disc lock on the front, and Abus Granit Sledg 77 disc lock on the rear. Having disc locks at both ends stops people just lifting the front and wheeling the bike away. I also have the factory fitted alarm/immobiliser, and always use the stearing lock.
At home, the bike is also chained up and covered by a CCTV camera.
Thieves tend to go for the easier target, so make your bike harder to steal than the guy parked next to you.
Unfortunately the "best" chains weigh around 20lbs and the padlock probably another 2lbs. It is a lot of weight to carry on a bike that has saddlebags capable of only carrying 10lbs.
Have a buddy that owns a SG and a sport bike, parks both outside and chains them together (Townhouse) A thief cut the chains picked the sport bike up and loaded it in a truck and left. Moral to the story, no one steals Harley's to go joy riding, if a thief wants it bad enough they will find a way. as suggested good insurance is the best policy.
I bought a Artago Disc lock. It has a very load motion alarm built in. I went a a solo trip in 2017 out west for 6k miles. never had a issue. Used a plain jane cover and my Artago along witht he bike alarm. never went off. Artago alarms are expensive but i think they are worth it.
