Default National Forcast Sux

I posted this in the Rode Trip forum but decided to post it here based on a suggestion from another forum member. I'll be leaving on a solo road trip next week, either Wed or Thur. I originally thought about going to the Smokies and perhaps The Tail of the Dragon as well. After checking the 10 day forcast for the area it looks like it may be be a good idea. I don't mind riding in the rain but I'd rather have more good, dry days then wet ones on the road. My other option is going to the Rockies, perhaps Colorado or so. Unfortunatly that area looks pretty much the same as my first choice - rain. Here's what I'll looking at: I live in deep South TX and have between 10 -12 days to travel. I want mountains, mostly sunny days, and cooler weather. Oh, lakes would be nice too. I plan on doing no more than 400 miles a day and will camp during most of my trip. I plan on staying in a hotel about once every 3 or 4 days just to clean up real good and rest. Any suggestions as to a good place to go that would be relatively dry this time of year?

As far as Upstate SC / Western NC around the smokies you should plan to see rain when there is even a slight chance of rain. Here's how it breaks down for those of us in this area: 10% chance of rain (whether it be scattered showers or otherwise) = 0% chance of rain except maybe a 30 sec. shower somewhere, 30% chance of rain = you will get wet but the shower will not normally last more than 5 - 10 minutes however expect to ride through those 4 or 5 times on your trip and 40% chance = 100% chance you will get soaked.

What about over to West Texas around Alpine, up through Ft Davis? Then maybe up into New Mexico around Ruidosa. Nice scenery through there and some mountains.
