I race...............safety is number one in my book....plus we have rules.
I get a new helmet every year OR if there is a hardimpact to the helmet.
This years Shoei was $600.
Race rules state Snell M2005 certification as a requirement, none older.
IF I dropped my helmet in the pits from 3 feet up would I use it? NO.
I would send it in to Shoei for them to evaluate while I used last years M2005 helmet.
I would not use a helmet onder than Snell M2005 no matter if it was dropped or not. Like anything else liners degrade from sweat and atmospheric conditions.
But hey........................it's your mellon not mine................
