It's dealer profit, cops don't use or have the technology to read "microdots" in the field.
I was at Ram dealer in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and the dealer wanted $299 for a flashing CHMSL . No thanks, what if I didn't want it? Sorry, mandatory dealer installed accessory.
In other words, mandatory dealer profit for a $10 flasher.
Yep, I've heard that crap called, "addendum" items. They even add them on the window sticker so it all looks official to the unaware buyer. A couple years ago I was looking to buy a new pickup at a local dealer. I studied the sticker and found the little area where that overpriced and worthless crap was listed. $299 for window etching, $599 for paint protection, etc. I told the salesman when we sat down that that crap comes right off the top before we start. He informed me that wasn't possible. I thanked him for his time, got up, told him I was headed for Tulsa to see if they wanted to sell a truck, and walked out. Of course his manager chased me out into the parking lot.
I ended up with a good deal but had to walk out 2 more times. I really don't have the patience for vehicle sales crap anymore. And their little game of high dollar low cost crap additions pisses me off even more. Imagine how many folks they stick that crap to and are financing said crap?

The Dodge/Ram dealer in Reno puts nitrogen in all the tires of all the vehicles on the lot. I didn't bother arguing with them for $60. Still pisses me off though. I have started patronizing another dealership that doesn't do this crap.

Data Dots are not mandatory.
I would highly advise calling Harley Financial services and let them know that a dealer is forcing customers to buy back end products. This is a very serious issue that most of us dealers have to fight against.

Air is already 78% nitrogen. I'd tell him I'll give you an extra $13.20 which is 22% of the $60!
