Anyone else notice a big drop in their gas mileage in winter?. Normally I get between 38-42 mpg, with my '05 Roadking with the 88 cu in motor. Went for our usual Sunday Polar Bear ride yesterday, and my mileage dropped to about 29 mpg. Went 132 miles and when I gassed up it took 4.6 gallons, on a 5 gallon tank. At times I wish I had a bigger tank.,,,

Lots of reasons. Longer warm
up time and consequently richer mixture for one. Another is that gasoline refiners switch to winter blend fuel for easier starting, but winter blended fuel actually contains less thermal energy than summer fuel blend yielding less mileage.
I dont keep track of the bike but in my car I average about 41 MPG in the spring and fall (AC off) but it drops to 38 MPG in winter.
I only let it warm up a little more then summer, but that's only for the first start of the day. I was thinking maybe the bike doesn't like the brand of gas I used. Like I said usually my mileage is better then 29 per gallon. I never check the mileage in my car, but I do on the bike. I'm not a fan of pushing a 750 pound bike anything more then into or out of the garage.,,,
Today I went for a ride and the oil temperature was 90°C. In the height of summer it has gone to 110°C. With EFI using engine temperature and intake air temperature to decide on enrichment a cold engine will use more gas.
In my diesel car I have seen a difference of 8 to 9 mpg lower in winter.
With your tenure here on the forum, I am surprised you have not noticed this before now, meaning not previous years. Happens every year. Winter blend sucks.
