Texas:

Effective September 1, 2015 SB1918 passed to add TRC 547.306 LED GROUND EFFECT LIGHTING EQUIPMENT ON MOTORCYCLE.
  1. In this section, "LED ground effect lighting equipment" means light emitting diode (LED) technology that is attached to the underbody of a motorcycle for the purpose of illuminating:
    1. The body of the motorcycle; or
    2. The ground below the motorcycle.
  2. A person may operate a motorcycle equipped with LED ground effect lighting that emits a non-flashing amber or white light.

I have a set that has two zones, with each zone able to have its own color. When I installed them I installed more strips toward the rear area of the bike that I have programed red. Kinda looks like just more rear lighting.

The second zone, with fewer strips and more single puck lights is installed from the rear of the engine forward and is programed white. Again, just kinda suplementing my white front running lights. Got to be carefull to make sure the selection is white as just a little off full white on the adjustment scale will make white look blue....a big no no.

These zones, when in normal operation, are not overly bright but do add to the visability of the bike. However, they are also wired so that when the brake is activated they brighten up to supplement the brake lighting.

Although these lights can operate in different colors and can flash and pulse, I do not use those features.

Of course, here in Florida, the law is a LOT more MC friendly, so as long as you don't make your bike look like a Moto LEO's bike, pretty much all is good.

Of course, I do have a on/off button installed so I can choose when I run with them on. More useful on darker rural highways rather then on well lit heavy traffic city like roads.

I personally think those lights are ugly and would not have that garbage on my bike, but to each their own.

Il has a lights-on law for overcast or inclement weather. I would be happy if all the black and dark gray cars would start turning on ANY lights when it's dark and foggy like that. They seem to be the only ones that don't.
Accent stuff seems a little vain, but being seen is always good.
