The article states that 1/3 (59,000) of their bike sales were from the GS series. That's their ADV bikes. So it's clear that H-D's focus on that market is a good idea. What is kinda scary is H-D will really have to deliver the goods to be successful in that market. I say that as the GS riders that I know are as committed to the BMW brand as the now dying off boomer H-D rider is to their beloved cruiser. Tough sledding, to be sure.
What's crazy is that more BMW's were sold in France alone than the entire US/Canada market. The USA is not really a motorcycle culture, but we sure do love cars.

that's because we are so spread out. you can live almost anywhere in europe and not need a car. but mass transit here in the states is highly limited. we've got states that are bigger than a lot of countries. when i lived in germany, i didn't put hardly 7,000 miles a year on my car. here in the states, i'm pushing 20,000 per year on just my truck, and i ride my bike as much as i can instead.

He told me that it jut blows people's minds in Russia that he is single with no kids yet he owns a 3500 SF four bedroom three bath house in America.
Yes, we like thing on the large side here in America.
