Ok I have owned several air cooled VW's in the past and understand about valve train noise in an air cooled push rod engine.
I am also a small engine mechanic and remember back in 94 replcing Kholer engine lifters with chevy 350 lifters because the stock lifters failed.
My question is, I have a 2005 1200c sportster with 3200 miles. I purchased just about 3 weeks ago with 2800 on her.
It seems that the valves will be noisy one moment then the next they will quiet down.
Tonight they are more noisy then ever!
I have been told by the service manager that Harleys are noisy.
But I beleive that I have a lifter problem and will be taking the bike in on sunday to leave it with them to check out.
Just wanted to get some opinions before I get an answer from the dealer, I did purchase a 1 year warranty and my sales guy said I had a 30 day full warranty from the dealership.
Thanx in advance for any info.
Phil
Hay Phillip.... Welcome to HDforums,,,, adjusting valves on my bike takes about 10 min.....u say u have warranty and u been around wrenches,,,,choice is yours,,,I would ask them for an estimate first....if u want I can give u a run down on adjustment.......
according to what im reading and they have told me, there is not any adjustment. Is this not true? If not and they claim they do need adjusting Im gonna ask him, WTF?
Will keep you posted and if they are adjustable I sure will be interested in doing it myself, then I know its right!
I just know they shouldnt be quiet one moment then noisy the next then get quiet again.
Not too sure wit these new bikes,,,I lost intrest when they stoped making shovelheads,,,,somebody in here should know about your 2005.....does it start ticking when it get's hot???
But even though they are self adjusting it shouldnt be noisey one moment then quiet the next. It should be a consistant sound from the valve train, either noisey or quiet, and by quiet I dont actually mean that u dont hear them but they shouldnt sound like a trashing machine either!
