Seems like more and more towns are having murals like this, ever since the couple from Laurel, MS started doing it to revitalize their "Home Town", for their Discovery/HGTV show of the same name, and then they started doing it in other towns they worked in. They would go in, renovate a few local businesses, and a couple homes that were owned by folks doing a lot of work in their community, and along the way, they would also usually do some mural on a big wall near the heart of the town, to try to bring more people in to see it, along with a "community" project, like a park. I guess they really started doing this in Winslow, AZ, with the statue and mural there on that corner, but these folks have expanded it in all the towns they've worked in. I think it's a great idea, too! In the mural, they usually try to highlight and display what the town is famous for, or what they do nearby. The last one I saw, they also put up a silo off the highway to draw people in OFF the highway, painted with a huge fish on it, since they have lots of good fishing nearby, with a 3D "lure" standing out from it. It was really cool the way they did it, too.
