Thanks for trying to keep this on track.
I have many jackets both thick and thin. I'm appreciating the thicker long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts. The older Vests I have owned were decorative at best, protective in the least. With the chiller air, I'm desiring a thicker vest, yet I'm surprised at the prices that rival most HD padded jackets.
Time to **** into the wind and shell out for a great piece of clothing.

Hillside vests are well made in USA, and very reasonable.

Cycle Gear has some nice stuff but you have to look at it good as the grades of gear varies from OK to really nice.
And I don't like branded stuff so it's hard to find anything that doesn't have a large LOGO on it there.

It is a forum, he asked on it. So he will get all kinds of responses from people, with their opinion. Kinda how it works.

So my opinion, I like less weight.

They are not so thin they would not protect you, unless you are a racer and slide down the track every week.

Foxcreek's womens line is thinner. Do you think would make a bad product? I suspect men just equate thickness with quality, so make extra heavy so they think they are getting something better.

Only reason I got a new one, is I wanted better pockets, that could carry a gun. The vest I had for 20 years was light, and fine. I am not sure I am really wearing a vest for protection. It leaves your arms exposed obviously.

I went with the $160 dollar model cause the descriptiopon of leather was better.
Had a sale and got for $130.

I like foxcreek, but I think $300 for a vest is silly. They have gotten to popular and their prices have gone up to much. Like Pennys now, will only buy on sale with a coupon.

What I didn't like about the hillsdale vest is the lest is zipper and right snap. Since most people carry gun in left, it should be snap. Which is how my FC jackets are. Oddly enough GF FC vest only has one inside pocket. Why they would think women carry less is beyond me.

I haven't worn it yet, pretty sure I'll keep it. Not crazy about the weight. Website says they are using thick leather than FC. Not sure if less processing and mayube cheaper. GF FC vest feels lighter, but it is a womens and their womens line is ligher.

Weight is why many are moving away from leather.

I too suffered from old age got fat syndrome, If you like your vest a good leather shop can add laces and a panel to make it expandable. Walter Dyer is leather can do it well if they're at a rally near you and ship it back when done.

IMO:
Lil Joes (depending on which one you get) are the best vests (cuts) for MC members. That includes the denim cut. The leather is almost twice as thick as anyone else's and it's guaranteed for life. The "cut" style vests does not have pockets so your destination rocker does not need to be hand stitched over a pocket making it a PITA for the taylor. I've seen the taylor snap off 6 needles while hand stitching a lil joe's leather. The denim is probably the best I've ever seen. Yes, I've had them all over the years but switched to Lil Joe's couple years and neither are broke in yet.
I'll be honest, some guys don't like them because the leather is that STIFF and durable.

I had to look. Mine is Event leather. Most of the cuts I see are for patches. You can find vest expanders at most biker leather shops.

It has a gun pocket too both sides..lol
