Since I run year round, I have several pair of running tights. You can usually pick them up at your local sporting goods store. That's what I wear under my jeans when it's cold.
Yesterday was in the 20's on the way to work and I was toasty warm.
I wear:
- Long johns, jeans and chaps.
- Fleece, down vest, and snow mobile jacket or leather jacket.
- Silk glove liners and Cabella Gortex snow mobile gloves.
- 3/4 helmet or full face depending on temps.
The one thing I don't like is having to go into the bathroom when I get to work to take off the long johns.
I just ordered a pair of Polartec 200 pants ($29.95) from Cabela's. I figure I can put them over my jeans and under my chaps and not have to bother with long johns anymore and hopefully they will be even warmer.
Little known fact I've tried to get out there for a long time... Correct pronunciation of chaps is "shaps"... as they were designed and used first on the Chaparral Ranch in the southwest many moons ago. I haven't heard anyone but the cowboys I grew up with call them that though...
Today's useless trivia.
I use insulated Carharts overalls when it gets below 35 or so. A bit bulky, but worth it.
Shaps?.. Yup, that's how you say it. Chaps are English guys. Anyways, if your nuts are freezing, buy some pantyhose and wear them under your jeans. That's another old cowboy trick. It works.
