OK, I keep hearing how CA is the problem. There have been no new laws written in CA unless it is town based. When you buy a bike in CA you simply know that if you change your pipes you have the potential of getting a ticket. It's not new.

I believe Denver...thats CO folks not CA....is the first major city to out right say they are targeting bikers for non-stock pipes. Local popular motorcycle cities and areas get noise complaints from the residents and that is enough to spark a ban or stepped up enforcement. I too have an issue with the Denver law pin pointing bikes specifically. Part of all this has been the growing popularity of bikes.

Most of the time it is a matter of the few ruining it for the many. It could be the bikers or an over zealous city gov't thinking they are going to "save thier city" until they realize that by ousting the bikers they oust the $$$ they brought in.

So far I have had no issue with my pipes or even Hubby's (his are way louder then mine and even he is getting annoyed....they came with the bike and we don't have the stock pipes). I ride through many of the areas where people have said they are "cracking down" and have even had cops in front, beside, or behind mewith no issues but then we are not being stupid or rapping our pipes. We also don't like the crowds and don't find loud partying our style sotend to stay away fromhuge bike gatherings.

BTW....If it is gas driven it creates emmisions....My Hubby's 1800 has a bigger engine then my Dads '67 VW. Your kidding yourself if you think it doesn't create emmisions. The emissions crack down has been on all vehicles in CA .... again for decades.

As far as thetrains I doubt are putting on after market exhausts...they also cannot avoid where the tracks are laid. If you don't like trains don't live near the tracks. 18 Wheelers have thier own problems and get it good for everything from noise to emmissions to about a billion little nit picky things....just ask a Trucker about the **** he/she puts up with.

I dont know why people are concerned with what happens in denver. if you have ever been there or colorado springs you would know people there and in cali are the same. they think the same way( i know not all people sorry if i offended you). its all about the enviroment and pleasantville which in the end down the line i can draw it for you how eventaully it comes out with a law against loud pipes.
in oklahoma they have laws against changing to a muffler which is louder than the stock they can ticket you for ir. they dont they may pull you over for it though. in lawton we have laws against loud stereos in cars. it goes as far stating if you can hear the bass note or the music itself on the side of the street outside of the car they can ticket it and they do all the time.

Maybe we should be challenging the non-stock pipe makers to make good sounding (maybe not SUPER LOUD), emissions legal pipes. Heck, I changed my pipes not for the sound but for the looks and the ability to put decent sized bags on my bike.

It can be done.

Oh and sorry tlb I didn't mean to just point the finger at CO either.....I'm just tired of CA get called some Commi state.

So my bike that gets 45 to 50 miles per gallon is an environmental threat but not the schoolbus / city bus / dump truck / garbage truck that I get stuck behind that pumps enough black soot into my lungs and face that I look like a West Virginia coal miner? It's all about money and power folks! The government has the power and Big Business has the money and they're in the sack together! We're gettin the shaft because our lobbying groups don't have as much clout or cash to line political pockets as the environmnental groups and the transportation industry. The Powers That Be have to look like they're doing something about polution and they picked the easiest target available (like they always do) and that's us!

I believe some of the larger aftermarket companies are beginning to do this, but more are needed. Around here ( Santa Barbara, CA), if you draw attention to yourself by rapping your pipes or redlining it away from a stoplight), the LEOs look for that EPA certification stamping on the mufflers (most aren't carrying db meeters yet). My SEIIs, for example, clearly state, 'Not For Road Use', so if I get stopped, I'll have to put my stockers back on and rejet the carb (mine's an '05). That said, if you're not drawing attention to yourself, or are not part of a group, some of whom are acting their shoe size, rather than their age, you probably won't have an issue. It all depends on your, and you riding partners', behavior . . . for now.

O--YEAH !!!
Loud pipes rock! [sm=icon_rock.gif](and save lives) and nothing not even a ticket or two or threewill stop me from enjoying the sound of my pipes. Thats one of the biggest reasons I bought A Harley was the sound and now you (not pointing to any one person) want me to use stock pipes. Not going to happen.

I agree some people do over do it and act a little crazy but even those people have the right to enjoy life as they see fit as long as nobody is hurt while having fun. I'd like to know how do loud pipes hurt anybody? Maybe we should ban plains and trains because they are so loud?Pretty soon if things keep going the way they are the word "fun" is going to be remove from the dictionary because of all the people who have nothing better to do then complain about those of use enjoing life as we see fit within reason. "Live and let live "!!!!

Our mayor closed the streets for bike dragster day. And then shot cars with a cannon.Wish he had been re-elected. Guess you just have to be reasonable and it helps who you are

What do you expect when you buy pipes that state off road use only (or racing).
Everyone whines at it (me included) but we know what the laws are,
so if anyone gets a ticket they knew before hand.
my view.

There's only about 9 counties out of the 58 in California that I have any use for (Mono, Tuolomine, Calveras, Amador, Alpine, El Dorado, Placer, Nevada and Sierra) they're the only ones I ride in (because I like the area and the towns there enough to not blame them for the fact they're not in Nevada), and I've never had any problems with my non-stock pipes. I might not have the same luck elsewhere in CA, but I'm not really a beach guy, don't like big cities, and generally don't have much a reason to try my luck elsewhere.

In CA, but a lot of EPA bull starts here and then spreads to everywhere else.
Kalifornia is a cancer on the rest of this country, most of bullsh!tstarts there and then spreads to the rest of the country, and I can't think of anything that has started in Kalifornia that is worth a ****. That also goes for the eastern left coast also, it'sjust not quite as bad but close. I wish they could become their own socialist Rebublik of Kalifornia, the land of idiots and keep all their bullsh!t to themselves.
