And according to this article, they aren't pulling out of racing, they are just dropping Vance and Hines and instead will support more dealer racing teams and contingency money.
So they aren't getting out of racing, they are just re-allocating their funding.
My guy, we just won the AFT Production Twin National Championship a couple of weeks ago...… Do you people not follow the racing side of H-D??? Rispoli won multiple main events this year and clinched the championship on day one in Daytona... They also had 3 or 4 other Harley riders win main events this year. The flat track program is not terrible.
IMHO a new class that was created for this season because of the terrible performance of the V&H XG750 bikes in the Pro twins class. This new class was supposed to be for the privateers without all the money backing of a factory. So if you look at the 4 seasons prior to this year and then this years results in the Pro class the performance has been terrible and there is no way to sugar coat that. Indian came out and has crushed it, it's just that simple. Is that what I want to see, hell no but it is what it is. Let's see how it does over the next few seasons without all HD's dollars feed it and my bet is there will be nothing but Indians in the Pro class with a good mix of other various manufacture bikes in the production twins class if it is able to live on. When the big corporate dollars dry up, as is happening now, things will go back to the privateer and they will buy and race what they can afford and not a $50,000.00 bike. If it doesn't work or cut the mustard they will switch to what does.
edit: The bike that won was also fielded by Latus HD with Mike Steagman running the engine program too. Rumor has it they will be stepping it up to the Pro class next season.

That is one reason why HD delaying/dumping the Bronx was so disappointing to me. If I were in a decision making position at HD I would have voted to drop the Pan America and continue with development of the Bronx.
PanAmerica is likely to be able to participate in Dakar.
Canning Vance and Hines was long overdue! They did NOTHING to improve HD's flat track program. They're drag racers, they knew nothing about building or tuning a flat track motorcycle. Harley has been racing flat track for over 100 years. They'll be around next season, don't worry.
So they're out of bagger road racing too? Sounds like the racing scene is rigged, some kind of hoax. They might as well quit if they're going to be losers.
