Default Torque

How does Harleyfigure it's torque on the TC88's? They advertise 85 lbs of torque, but with S&S 510G cams, freeflowing air filter, andless restrictive exhuast, mine is only putting around 80 lbs on the ground. Was reading an article in AIM, and a 95 was only putting around 90 on the ground. Is this number at the flywheel, or is is just false advertising?

Since they don't advertise hp in their brochures, either printed or online, I'm not sure how many horses a stock twinkie puts out, my local svc mgr sez high 50's-low 60's, but not really sure it thats on the ground or flywheel....My hp to the ground is about the same as torque....78-80.

Thanks XXX, understand now how their torque is so high. Was wondering if something was wrong with my bike, since I'm only doing 78-80 with a few mods.

Yes, they measure at the crank using the SAE J1349 atmospheric correction factor for net TQ. They also use the RPM step method, stepping the engine's RPM to a given RPM and having the load controlled engine dyno hold it there for the TQ reading, Vs the RPM sweep test that we use on chassis dynos. The step test method also provides higher numbers then if they were using the sweep method. HD does not provide the very importantHP #s for obvious competitivereasons.
