I can't believe someone else has said it besides me. Everyone is getting too damn soft, and all they're worried about is not hurting someone else's feeling or pissing Sally Anne or Billy Joe off ], and trying to improve our 'biker image' by not cussing at a cager after they about kill one of us. Seems like everyone has just turned to mush and have no backbone anymore. [&o]

I believe it. In the three days I've ridden my new bike with its quiet stock exhaust, I've had multiple people pull out in front of me from side streets and from parallel parking spots, causing me to swerve to avoid T-boning their quarterpanels. They also are improving my quickness to the horn. I think pipes louder than stock really shine from a safety perspective in regards to vehicles pulling out from side streets. A lot of these intersections are overgrown with bushes and trees so that it is hard to see the small, short profile of a motorcycle.

I've never run a bike with stock pipes (well, except for when I first got them) and I don't plan to either. For me, it's because I just love the sound - it'sa big part of the experience. But the safety aspect is a no brainer too. Glad you made it out of that situation TM.

I'm sure glad that wasn't me with my stock pipes. Sounds like I'd be dead now.
You know whaap, I didn't figure it would take you long to chime in. I couldn't tell you if you would be dead or not, all's I know is that I'm not hurt, my scoot is not hurt and I'm not dead.

Guy says its because he heard me. I guess he could be mistaken or just lying. Can't tell you thatif I had quite pipes or stock pipes installedthanwhat I have nowif he would have heard me or not. I'm inclined to believe that he may have, but not soon enough. Just my opinion, being there and all.
Yeah, I know when this topic comes up I find it pretty easy to come across asa jerk. The "loud pipes" issue probably is the only thorn I have in my side about the Harley crowd. I guess when the topic comes up I'll keep on being the jerk. As the saying goes: "We can agree to disagree".

Yeah, I knew Whaap would be in on this one too I understand it's a devisive issue and really don't want to offend anyone, but at the same time, I know there are people who hear my pipes and recognize that I am there that would otherwise be totally oblivious. That doesn't mean in any way that I don't have responsiblities to drive defensively and not put myself in bad situations, but I'll take every advantage to arrive safely....even if some disagree. I look at it this way - when cell phones are banned nationwide and all cage drivers are required to take motorcycle awareness classes I'll think about quiter pipes.....maybe

Bah TM, I don't believe you...we allknow "loud pipes save lives" is just an overused cliche. After all, we're just runnin loud pipes to be nonconformist and annoy little old ladies heading back from the grocery store, standing on the corner waiting for a boy scout to help 'em accross the street. Me personally, I'm convinced I got loud pipes soley to make up for a small ***** (saw it on a commercial once I did). Whaddya mean I've been brainwashed by the PC crowd?

Glad you ended up riding shiny side.

Oh yea, just for those of you that don't get humor, this post was an example of sarcasm.
